Learning Support
Our Learning Support Unit screens all new pupils and recommends to parents what level of support, if any, is required, so you can rest assured that your child’s individual needs will be met.
The Department has three specialist staff, Mrs. Cathy Beckett, Mrs. Alyson Gray and Mr. Ronald Marks, who advise all the teachers on specific strategies needed for individual lessons, if necessary, and personal support inside the classroom. Over the years this specialist support has facilitated the successful integration of pupils with, for example, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Asperger’s and ADHD, and has enabled the growth of academic confidence and ambition that might otherwise not have been possible.
‘For the least able pupils the work of the Learning Support Unit is clearly very effective and greatly appreciated, especially the in-class support.’ (Inspection Report 2009, para 2.23)
