After a very disjointed start to the Boys' Hockey season due to the success of our Rugby team and the weather, Worksop has made it through to the final eight in the Midlands. This was achieved with good wins over Uppingham and Northampton School for Boys and a 1-1 draw against an inform Bromsgrove team who have found their stride early this year. We hope that the team will continue to improve as the season wears on and wish them all the best in the next round.

On Wednesday, 12th February the Chapel Choir maintained its termly tradition of Cathedral visits by singing Evensong in the newly renovated quire of Ripon Cathedral. The music included Stanford’s iconic setting of the evening canticles in C major and Elgar’s stirring anthem “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me”.

Worksop College failed to realise the dream of playing at Twickernham as they were beaten 17-13 by a well organised and committed Sandbach School in the last 8 of the Daily Mail Vase competition.

Congratulations to Gerogina Palmer who qualified in 8th place for the senior girls.

Daniel Orme qualified in 3rd place for the senior boys (Bronze medal), Guy Durdy finished 11th in the intermediate boys and gets a reserve place, whilst James Dane (who finished 15th) gets a Gold medal for being a member of the Champion School (combined team of Worksop and Ranby).

Twenty Lower Sixth pupils attended the ‘Your Future in Europe’ Conference on the 4th to 6th February, 2010 at the Palais de Congrès, Paris. They had the opportunity to listen to speakers such as Vince Cable MP and Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Shami Chakrabati, President of Liberty and Eric Pickles, the Conservative Party Chairman.

On Tuesday evening, under the aegis of the English Department, 40 pupils of all ages at the College and some staff, read an eclectic mix of poems, some by very well-known poets, others by the pupils themselves. By the event’s conclusion (and the serving of refreshments) we had heard some of the poetry of Donne, Milligan, Dahl, Lawrence, Browning, and Hemingway, to name a few.
