Headmaster's Final Address to Worksop College
After over 18 years as the Headmaster of Worksop College, Mr. Roy Collard is retiring at the end of this school year. On Saturday 30th June the College celebrated the achievements of the year at their annual Speech Day at which the guest of honour was Mr. Simon Reid, former Deputy Head of Worksop College and now Principal of Gordonstoun School.
In his final speech as Headmaster, Mr. Collard talked of his experiences at the College and what he believes is “the very essence of education”. As well as stretching minds and bodies, he spoke of the importance of extra-curricular pursuits to produce well-rounded young people with experiences of leadership and self-exploration outside the classroom.
To end his speech he said “I referred to my journey through my career and this week it reaches its end but from that, as I reach my diamond jubilee, comes my next beginning”.
Mr. Collard is succeeded as Headmaster by Mr. Gavin Horgan, who joins the College from The Glasgow Academy, together with his wife Alison and two young children.
