The Olympics Come to Worksop College

Forget London 2012, in celebration of this year’s Olympic Games, Worksop College and Ranby House School came together to participate in their own version of the competition, and one rather more light-hearted than those taking place in the capital next month!

Aided by staff from both schools, more than 200 pupils from Years 6 to 10 were split into mixed age group teams with the aim of promoting teamwork and ensuring fair competition.

The aim of the event was ultimately to have fun and this was displayed through with numerous events involving water, dressing up or sometimes both! Pupils moved water from one container to another using just a straw, put on wellington boots, filled them with water and ran wearing them attempting to conserve as much as possible and there were teamwork races which proved challenging as well as hilarious!

At the end of the afternoon, the scores from each of the ten races were totalled and each member of the winning team received a shield presented by Roy Collard, the Headmaster.

This special event, to mark the 2012 Olympics, was one of the first for the “one school” of Worksop College and Ranby House School and was an excellent and enjoyable start for both staff and pupils who will undoubtedly come together more regularly in the future.
